Acheson Racing...

August is recognized across Alberta as New Driver Safety Month. Inexperience behind the wheel can increase the risk of collisions, which is why Parkland County Enforcement Services encourages new drivers to stay focused, avoid distractions, and practice defensive driving. Key safety tips include maintaining safe following distances, obeying posted speed limits, and staying off mobile devices while driving.

Racing in Acheson

A few incidents of street racing have been reported in Acheson this summer, raising serious safety concerns. Racing on public roads is not only illegal—it’s extremely dangerous. High speeds reduce reaction time and increase the risk of severe crashes, rollovers, and fatalities. Racers often ignore traffic signals and drive recklessly, putting themselves, passengers, pedestrians, and other road users at risk. In Alberta, street racing is prohibited under both the Traffic Safety Act and the Criminal Code of Canada. Offenders face steep fines, demerit points, vehicle impoundment, license suspension, and possible criminal charges if injuries or deaths occur.

The message is clear: racing belongs on a closed track, ...or in the movies—not on public roads where lives are at stake.
