Introducing the Project

The climate is becoming increasingly unpredictable and scientific models are predicting a lot more change by 2050.

Changes in our climate lead to different types of hazards such as flooding, extreme heat, drought, wildfires and severe storms. These can cause harm to people, property, infrastructure and the natural environment.

Climate adaptation involves preparing for and responding to climate hazards. It focuses on making our homes, farms, communities, infrastructure, and natural areas more resilient so we can reduce risks and recover quickly. Examples include upgrading infrastructure to manage heavy rainfall, FireSmarting around communities, or community hall upgrades to improve cooling systems during heatwaves.

What are you seeing? What solutions exist to help cope?

Scientific models are predicting a lot of changes to our climate by 2050. The hazards associated with these changes have also been predicted.

To better understand local risks and protect our quality of life from climate change hazards, Parkland County is creating a Climate Adaptation Plan.

What is a Climate Adaptation Plan and why does it matter?

The Plan will:

Document what is happening - Identify the impacts of extreme weather and changes in nature based on community input and scientific data

Identify out biggest risks - Assess current and future risks to Parkland communities

Identify practical actions - Recommend actions and partnerships to minimize risks and build resilience

Survey – We are looking to understand how these changes will impact you.
Available from September 4 – November 20, 2026. Complete the online survey.

You will be able to pick up a paper copy at the Parkland County administration building (53109A Hwy 779, Parkland County, T7Z 1R1).

Parkland County Climate Adaptation Plan - Public Survey

Extreme weather is affecting life in Parkland County. In 2026 alone, County residents experienced record rainfall, crop risk, high mosquito populations, damaging winds, and repeated tornado watches. The County continues to experience intensifying heat, smoke, wildfire, hailstorms and heavy snowfall, with increasing extremes expected into the future.
To prepare for the future and protect our quality of life from the impacts of extreme weather, Parkland County is creating a Climate Adaptation Plan (the Plan). We are working to develop common-sense solutions to risks posed by a changing climate, by learning from you about what you are experiencing and how confident you feel in managing the potential impacts. Survey results will help identify priority climate risks and inform the development of the Plan. A summary of findings will be shared publicly and used to guide future adaptation actions.
The listed hazards below are how we expect the region’s climate to change by 2050.
