Project Description:

Prospector's Point Road (RR 263 & Twp. 510A) providing access to the Devonian Trail & Prospector’s Point public use area, will undergo design & rehabilitation work.

Scope of Work:

The project includes design and construction which is focused on improving road condition and rideability.


Schedule:

Est. Start date: Detailed Design started January 2025.

Pre-construction activities to start August 15, 2025.

2025 Construction work will be complete November 15, 2025. Construction will resume in the Spring/Summer of 2026 to complete the remaining paving.

Updates:

November 6, 2025: 2025 construction complete. Construction will resume in 2026 to complete the paving of the road. No further updates expected until the Spring (May/June) of 2026.

October 7, 2025: Prospectors Point Road under the Devon Bridge is closed to traffic in order to complete construction. Prospectors Point Park Remains open to Pedestrian Traffic Only.

September 15, 2025: Construction is ongoing with the priority slope repair under the bridge. Slope repair expected to be completed in the next two weeks. Local access will be maintained; temporary traffic delays may occur to allow construction to proceed safely.

August 15, 2025: Construction from Range Road 263 to Prospectors’ Point Park is scheduled to begin in September which will include brush clearing, slope repairs, culvert installation, reclamation of road surface and installation of culverts. Local access will be maintained; temporary traffic delays may occur to allow construction to proceed safely.

June 30, 2025: Contractor Request for Quotation has closed. Successful contractor will be selected upon completion of the Request for Quotation evaluation process.

May 2025: Request for quotation (RFQ) to secure a construction contractor has been posted. Anticipate being able to start construction late summer.

April 28, 2025: Detailed design nearing completion. Construction anticipated in late summer August/September 2025.

March 25, 2025: No update.

February 06, 2025: Detailed design is ongoing.

December 11, 2024: Preliminary design is complete. Regulatory approvals are being submitted. Detailed design will commence in January 2025.

September 11, 2024: Design continues to progress. The project update to the Governance and Priorities Committee (GPC) has been rescheduled for December 3, 2024.

August 2, 2024: Design is progressing. A project update to the Governance and Priorities Committee (GPC) is tentatively scheduled for October 1, 2024.

June 10, 2024: Consultant has begun work with Geotechnical site investigations starting July 10

Notice – There will be a one-day road closure to the parking lot for vehicles at the South-West side of the Hwy bridge on July 11. Vehicle parking will be identified on site and pedestrian traffic will be accommodated to the parking lot and the trailhead via the existing trail network.

May 2024: Parkland County is currently procuring a consultant to complete the design.

Notice of Road Rehabilitation: Prospectors Point Road from Range Road 263 to Prospectors Point Park

As part of Parkland County’s 2025 Road Rehabilitation Program, Prospectors Point Road is scheduled for major improvements beginning in mid-August and continuing through mid-October.

Project Timeline

Start Date: Approximately August 15, 2025
Completion Date: Approximately October 15, 2025
Pre-Construction Activity: You may notice crews on-site prior to the start date to prepare the work area and locating underground utilities.

Scope of Work

Clearing trees and brush within the road right-of-way to improve visibility and road safety.

Slope repair and erosion protection under the Devon Bridge.

Culvert installation and ditch grading.

Reclamation and asphalt paving of the road surface.

Installation of roadway line markings, guardrails, delineators, and signage.

Traffic Impacts

Local Access will be maintained. However, temporary traffic delays may occur to allow construction to proceed safely.

Flaggers and/or traffic control devices will be present to guide vehicles through the construction zone.

Please drive with caution and follow all posted signage and instructions from traffic control.

Safety Reminder

Prospectors Park will remain open during construction. However, we ask all residents and visitors to:

Stay clear of active construction zones and keep children and pets away from work areas

Be aware of large construction equipment operating in narrow spaces with limited visibility
