East Parkland County

On December 9^th 2023, at approximately midnight, Parkland Crime Reduction Unit along with members from Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team were conducting proactive patrols when they located a suspicious Ford F350 enter the Town of Stony Plain. The licence plate did not match vehicle and it was discovered that the Ford F350 was stolen from Hinton, AB the week previous. A traffic stop was attempted but the vehicle fled from police at a high rate of speed. A pursuit was not initiated, however, with the assistance of EPS Air1, the vehicle was tracked and a tire deflation device was successfully deployed in the city of Edmonton where a lone occupant was taken into custody without incident. The suspect is known to police.

Edson resident, 44-year-old Tyler VAN NES was charged with:

• Possession of Stolen property Over $5000
• Flight from Police Officer
• Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
• Driving While Prohibited
• Fraudulent Concealment
• Operate Uninsured Vehicle

Did you know that Parkland County Enforcement Services (PCES) enforces commercial vehicle legislation? PCES employs a number of officers who are fully trained in conducting commercial vehicle inspections and enforcing weights and dimensions legislation. These capabilities allow PCES to ensure county infrastructure is protected and roadways within Parkland County are safe for motorists of all types.

On January 6th, 2024, a Parkland County Peace Officer was conducting a high visibility, crime reduction patrol in the vicinity of Hwy16 and Rge Rd 20. The Officer observed a semi truck and trailer combination driving at night without working taillights on the trailer. A traffic stop was initiated and specially trained Commercial Vehicle Peace Officer attended the stop to conducted a Level - 2 CVSA (Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance) inspection. The inspection resulted in the vehicle being put out of service until the tail lights were fixed.

On December 19, 2023, Parkland County Enforcement Services (PCES) hosted a Candy Cane Check Stop on Range Road 272, north of Highway 16 in conjunction with MADD Parkland. Candy Cane Check Stops are intended to raise awareness of impaired driving around the holidays and to remind motorists to drive safe, plan ahead and report suspected impaired drivers. PCES was joined at the Check Stop by numerous municipal and public partners, including Tuber Towing, Parkland Fire Services, Parkland RCMP, Alberta Sheriffs, Spruce Grove Enforcement and Stony Plain Enforcement. Throughout December leading up to Christmas, PCES will be hosting or supporting Candy Cane Check Stops in Parkland County, Spruce Grove and Stony Plain..

If you are on the roadways this holiday season, please remember the following:

• Be alert and responsive when behind the wheel
• Refrain from any activities that impair your judgement or ability to drive
• Plan a safe ride home; use public transit, a taxi, or a designated driver
• Clear snow and ice from your windshield and lights for better visibility
• Pay attention to road conditions and safety warnings to keep an emergency kit in your trunk
• If the weather is bad, consider revising your plans so you won't have to travel on icy or snowy roads
• Report suspected impaired drivers to the police

On February 23, 2023 a parkland County Peace Officer was patrolling Hwy 16 when they observed a vehicle travelling 141km/h in a posted 110km/h zone. The Peace Officer initiated a traffic stop and their subsequent investigation determined the driver had an outstanding form 7 endorsed warrant. The driver was arrested and issued a violation ticket for speeding.

On October 14th, 2023, a Parkland County Peace Officer conducted a traffic stop on a car traveling at 128km/h in a 100km/h zone on Highway 16A. Further investigation determined the driver's license had been suspended for driving while unauthorized in April, 2023.

The vehicle was towed, seized and the driver was issued 3 violation tickets.

On September 18, 2023 Parkland Village School Administration reached out to Parkland County Enforcement Services' School Resource Officer and advised that there has been a string of vandalism occurring over the weekends. Parkland County Enforcement Services will be increasing their patrols in the evenings and on weekends.

On August 22, 2023 a Parkland County Peace Officer was targeting offences statistically related to crime, in an area identified as a high crime area by RCMP statistics. The Officer conducted a traffic stop and through their investigation identified an altered Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plate and Sticker. Parkland RCMP were requested to assist and the vehicle was seized for further inspection by the auto theft unit.

On July 14, 2023 Parkland County became aware of thefts from motor vehicles occurring in the Estates on Fifth subdivision. Parkland County Enforcement Services responded by conducting saturation patrols in the area over the weekend.

On May 25, 2023 a Parkland County Peace Officer conducted a traffic enforcement patrol, targeting offences statistically related to crime on HWY 779 north of HWY 627. The Officer initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle and the subsequent investigation determined the vehicle was uninsured and the driver was operation a vehicle without the proper class license.

As a result of the thorough investigation:

• The vehicle was seized and impounded for 30 days
• The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without proper supervision
• The driver was issued a summons for driving an uninsured motor vehicle
