In response to ongoing demand for wireless internet services, the County is subsidizing equipment and installation fees to remove barriers to quality service access for qualified residents. Effective December 2, 2024, residents may now submit an application to receive a rebate of up to $1,000 for the hardware and installation costs for a new wireless internet connection.

To be eligible for the rebate, residents must supply proof of a series of CIRA speed tests demonstrating speeds consistently below 50 mbps download/10mbps upload, or declare an inability to establish a wired connection.

Funding is currently available for approximately 100 applicants and the program will conclude on or before Feb. 28, 2025, after which the program will be reviewed. The project team will continually monitor the program noting administrative demand, technical issues, and opportunities for improvement.

Please note the rebate is available only for new installations as the program requires participants to demonstrate a poor internet connection through a series of CIRA speed tests which cannot be provided retroactively.

To apply, please see below for application and instruction details.

Alternatively, you may apply by completing a hard-copy application available from Customer Service at Parkland County Centre.

County-wide speed testing to improve rural internet planning

Regardless of need or eligibility for the rebates mentioned above, Parkland County encourages all residents to participate in CIRA speed tests to improve understanding of connectivity and internet speeds more generally across the County.

Your up-to-date internet speed tests will help inform rural internet initiative planning.

  • Please note, to be eligible for the Wireless Internet Rebate Program, you must first complete CIRA Internet Performance Tests on five consecutive days demonstrating that your speeds are consistently below 50 mbps download/10 mbps upload. Instructions for completing your required internet performance tests are below. These tests must be completed to demonstrate poor internet connection before you submit your application. If you are unable to supply the required speed tests, you may alternatively submit an application using the form below, including a declaration that you are unable to establish a wired internet connection at your property.

Applications can be made using the online form below or by completing a paper application form available at Customer Service at Parkland County Centre.

How to complete your required CIRA Internet Performance Test:

    • When presented with the map, move the marker to your correct home address location
    • Click in the comments box to enter your municipal address; e.g. 26-53327 RGE RD 15, or if not in a subdivision, enter like this example: 5309A HWY 779

    • Please note, information about your internet package is not required but will help inform our rural internet initiative planning. Only your municipal address is required in the comments section.

    • Alternatively, if you are unable to supply speed tests, select the applicable answer to declare your inability to provide speed tests on the application form below.
