In response to ongoing demand for wireless internet services, the County is subsidizing equipment and installation fees to remove barriers to quality service access for qualified residents. Effective December 2, 2024, residents may submit an application to receive a rebate of up to $1,000 for the hardware and installation costs for a new wireless internet connection.

To be eligible for the rebate, residents must supply proof of a series of CIRA speed tests demonstrating speeds consistently below 50 mbps download/10mbps upload, or declare an inability to establish a wired connection.

Funding is currently available for approximately 100 applicants and the program will conclude on or before Feb. 28, 2025, after which the program will be reviewed. The project team will continually monitor the program noting administrative demand, technical issues, and opportunities for improvement.

Please note the rebate is available only for new installations as the program requires participants to demonstrate a poor internet connection through a series of CIRA speed tests which cannot be provided retroactively.

To apply, please revisit this page from Monday December 2, 2024 for full details and instructions for conducting your speed tests.

Alternatively, you may apply by completing a hard-copy application available from Customer Service at Parkland County Centre from Monday December 2.

County-wide speed testing to improve rural internet planning

Regardless of need or eligibility for the rebates mentioned above, Parkland County encourages all residents to participate in CIRA speed tests to improve understanding of connectivity and internet speeds more generally across the county.

Your up-to-date internet speed tests will help inform rural internet initiative planning.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the project team at ParklandConnectedCommunities@parklandcounty.com.

More details are also available on our Broadband website page.
